# Assistant

> Ask about your health ledger and log to it from a chat panel in the dashboard.

The assistant is a chat panel in the dashboard. Open it with the sparkle button in the top bar. It answers from what you have recorded and can log on your behalf.

## What it can do

* Read records, goals and attachments through the same MCP tools that other clients use, as your account.
* Summarize and compare days, weeks and trends in your account's time zone.
* Log records and change goals. Every change waits in the panel until you approve it; declined changes are never made.
* Move the dashboard to the day or page it is talking about.

It does not give medical advice or infer a diagnosis, and it says when something is not recorded.

## Conversations

Conversations are saved with your account. The history view lists earlier conversations; open one to continue it or delete it. Only one browser can run a step in a conversation at a time.

## Turning it on

The assistant appears once the API has a model credential. Set `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` for the Claude API, or point `AGENT_BASE_URL` and `AGENT_MODEL` at a gateway or Workers AI model with `AGENT_API_KEY` or `AGENT_AUTH_TOKEN`. See [Configuration](https://www.vitalog.dev/configuration.md) for every variable. Without a credential the panel and its button are hidden.

Model credentials are treated like every other secret: they are never written to logs or returned in responses.
